Become a Exam Writer
Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) item writers are key to the success of the CFMA CCIFP Designation Program. As experts in their field, item writers are responsible for creating test questions for the CCIFP exam. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who write items for the CCIFP exam can receive CPE towards their CCIFP recertification requirements. CFMA chooses new item writers for its programs frequently. No previous question-writing experience is necessary. We provide training and mentoring. If you meet the eligibility requirements and are interested in becoming an exam writer for the CCIFP exam complete the form below.
Eligibility Requirements
Criteria for participation as a CCIFP exam item writer are as follows:
- Current designation as a CCIFP (highly preferred)
- Minimum of five consecutive years in construction finance
- Expertise in one or more of the eight domains covered on the CCIFP exam
- Sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement
- Ability to work autonomously when required
Applications are always being accepted for new writers. To be considered, you must be a CCIFP in good standing or a SME who is a practicing construction financial professional with expertise in one of the eight domains on the exam. Candidates must submit a resume and complete a demographic questionnaire and interest form.
Selected item writers participate in a half-day virtual training and work with a highly experienced item development consultant.
Time Commitment
Please bear in mind, the more SMEs who are willing to share their expertise as item writers, the less of a time commitment it will be to the group. We realize time is precious and in this new era of conducting business there are multiple ways you can help. You will be required to participate in one of the following methods below.
Item writing will be conducted in the following ways:
- Virtually using an item writing/banking software (free training is provided)
- A mentor will be assigned to provide feedback while writing items
- You will write items independently, on your own time, with reference materials provided
- Write 15 items in a 90 day period (approximately 15 hours total)
- In person (when possible)
- A team of item writers will meet at various locations two-three times per year
- Sessions will 8-12 hours over a two (2) day period
- Allow one (1) extra day for travel
- Onsite training and networking
- A minimum team of 5 writers would be required
