For the first time, the 2024 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention specifically references the intersection of suicide with substance use, misuse, and substance use disorder. This is significant as the country continues to grapple with the ongoing drug overdose crisis.
By attending this webinar during Suicide Prevention Month, you will gain practical skills and techniques for initiating ongoing conversations with children and young adults about the potentially deadly consequences of substance use and misuse.
After this session, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the current data trends regarding preteen, teen, and young adult substance use.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of substance misuse.
- Learn practical tips for parents, guardians, and caretakers to be a source of protection for children and young adults on substance use.
- Gain insights on age-appropriate language and techniques for speaking to youth and young adults about making safe choices involving substance use.
