CCIFP, Chairman
Both the ICCIFP and CFMA depend on their volunteers to successfully execute their strategic plans and serve their certificate holders and members, respectively. But just as our work lives have changed during COVID-19, so have our volunteer lives.
We’ve learned that, even though we can’t be together, we can still get things done. What amazes me is the progress we are making despite the day-to-day issues of remote work, safety protocols, unpredictable child education models, cultural changes in our communities, and – last but not least – COVID-19 fatigue.
Most of you are engaged in volunteering for many other organizations, and I’m certain you are just as committed to those activities as you are to the ICCIFP and CFMA. I know why I initially began to serve CFMA and the ICCIFP, but lately, I’ve been thinking about the benefits we all receive from volunteering.
I can’t say enough about how good it feels to give back by donating my time, energy, and resources to organizations or causes that are meaningful to me. It gives me a sense of purpose and positively impacts my self-confidence.
Serving a cause that you believe in creates community, bolsters social connections, and builds life-long relationships. And, being part of a team or community has a long-term impact on our lives and wellbeing. Honestly, it just feels good.
Volunteering provides opportunities to learn new skills that help to advance our careers and broaden our networks. Both the ICCIFP and CFMA have so many opportunities to serve but also to develop leadership skills. I’ve personally learned so much from my friends and peers with whom I have served over the years through these organizations, and I can’t thank them enough. But I also know that continuous learning is just as important as feeling connected, having purpose, and feeling self-confident.
We are grateful for our ICCIFP and CFMA volunteers, as their impact to this community and our industry is invaluable. There are also endless opportunities to safely serve in our communities; giving blood, delivering meals, serving a food bank, giving to local charities, or serving from home are all great ways to give back to our communities, neighbors, and friends.
Volunteering has increased tremendously during COVID-19, and I would like to thank all of you for your service to others, the ICCIFP, and CFMA. I look forward to when we can all see each other in person.
Be well and stay safe.
