The Best Laid Plans of Mice and CFMs

The plan you had for 2020 has likely been tossed out the window as CFMs address a myriad of new issues related to COVID-19. The following are some things I have been dealing with over the last few weeks, perhaps you can also relate to a few:

  • We started hearing about COVID-19 in China and other countries long before it began to impact the U.S. Washington and California were the early hotbeds and, to a South Florida CFM, the crisis still seemed far away. While we anticipated it would eventually reach, we were uncertain as to whether or not it would be as big as it is.
  • As the virus began to spread and the news coverage increased, the concern set in. My wife was in Florida with me at the time and was scheduled to fly to our home in West Virginia. Due to fears of airport travel, we instead decided to drive. Not in the plan!
  • Before leaving Florida, I met with one of the owners and VP of IT to discuss work from home options, officially kicking off the process of protecting our staff. Having multiple locations, all were enlisted to provide thoughts and ideas. Not in the plan!
