CFMA had an opportunity to sit down with Zach Lang, CPA, a Controller at McCownGordon Construction in Kansas City, MO. Zach is also one of CFMA’s 40 Under 40 Honorees.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: Developing relationships with our operations team - job site visits, monthly/quarterly projection meetings, etc.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Yes, 1 year-old daughter (Madison) and another boy/girl on the way (January 2022)!
Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Collaborative, Authentic, Passionate
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: A tie between Tin Cup and Sandlot.
Q: What is something you can never over-invest in?
A: Time with Family!
Q: What are you reading right now?
A; Best Seat in the House by Jack Nicklaus and Don Yaeger.
Q: What have you learned about being a leader?
A: Leading takes patience, great listening skills, willingness to learn and change and building a great team to support you.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: Being a great father, husband and coworker/leader, in that order.
Q: What’s your favorite holiday to celebrate?
A: Definitely Thanksgiving. There's nothing better than family, great food and watching Thanksgiving football.
Q: How did you get into accounting?
A: I actually wanted to be a Math major and then an actuary for the first few years of college but then I was introduced to a potential career path in business/public accounting. I knew that the CPA career path could lead to experience working with a lot of great people, industries, companies and allow me to find my passion. Which it did.
