Meet Kevin Clary

Kevin Clary is the CFO of Hyder Construction in Denver, CO and also a member of CFMA's 40 Under 40. He took time to sit down and answer a few questions so we could get to know him better. Check it out!

Q: What time did you wake up this morning?

A: I typically wake up at 5:00 a.m. each morning and go for a run. It’s a great way to clear my mind and get ready for the day.

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure?

A: My guilty pleasure has to be Cold Stone ice cream. Go with the cake batter and M&M's, can't miss!

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: I am currently reading Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series. They're a great mix of entertainment and world history.

Q: What have you learned about being a leader?

A: I have learned that being a good leader means giving up the things that first made you successful early in your career, and then achieving bigger things through those you manage.

Q: What do you do to unwind from work?

A: Travel has always been useful as a way of unwinding from work – getting away from the office and emails somewhere where cell service is limited!

Q: What career advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

A: The career advice I would give  to my 18-year-old self would be to build as many relationships as possible; getting an early start on your network only pays dividends down the road. Never miss an opportunity to create friendships.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I grew up in Vail, Colorado, skiing and camping since I was two. I am lucky to still call Colorado home.

Q: Are you married?

A: I am married to a smart and fierce woman from Alabama. She has spent the last 12 years turning me into a Bama football fan.

Q: What do you collect?

A: I collect golf shirts. Every time I play a new course, I buy a shirt. It’s a nice way to relive the round each time you put one on.

Q: What was your first job?

A: My first job was selling shoes at an athletic store. Met some really interesting folks in that job!
