Principal member of the Elliott Davis team, Brittany Owen, CPA took time out of her day in Columbia, SC to chat with CFMA and answer these ten questions!

Q: What’s your favorite holiday to celebrate?

A: My favorite holiday to celebrate – can we call June 21st, Summer Solstice, a holiday? I vote yes – cheers to the longest day of the year!

Q: What is one thing you can’t live without?

A: One thing I can’t live without is my husband. I don't know what I would do without him.

Q: What was your first job?

A: My first job was as a hostess with the mostess at Chili's Bar & Grill.

Q: What do you collect?

A: I like to collect rocks. Really! I have a weird passion for geology.

Q: What career advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

A: The career advice I would give to my 18-year-old self would be to not be afraid to speak up, trust your gut and step out of your comfort zone.

Q: What energizes you at work?

A: Other people's energy energizes me at work. Nothing is better than seeing passion, drive and excitement in those around you.

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: Right now I am reading “Death by Meeting” by Patrick Lencioni.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: My favorite part of my job is the people. Specifically, what they believe, and the values they embody that builds the foundation of our amazing culture.

Q: What do you do to unwind from work?

A: To unwind from work, nothing beats a relaxing sunset cruise around the lake.

Q: What is one thing you have to have with you in meetings?

A: In my meetings one thing I have with me is a voice and contribution.
