Meet Ben Pechan, CCIFP

Ben Pechan, CCIFP, CFO at J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc. in Madison, Wisonsin and recent 40 Under 40 Honoree, sat down with CFMA and shared with us some fun facts about himself:

Q: What time did you wake up this morning?

A: This morning I woke up at 5:15 a.m.

Q: Do you have children?

A: I have a 5-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.

Q: If your life was a song what would the title be?

A: If my life was a song, the title would be, "The Days are Long and the Years Are Short."

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: My favorite movie is “The Shawshank Redemption.”

Q: What’s your favorite holiday to celebrate?

A: Five years ago, I would have said my favorite holiday to celebrate is Thanksgiving, but since having kids, Halloween and Easter are probably my favorite.

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: Right now, I’m reading “The Infinite Game” by Simon Sinek and “Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller.”

Q: What have you learned about being a leader?

A: I have learned that being a good leader comes from experience, knowledge and repetition. It's not something that's read in a book or earned through a certificate. As a leader, you work for the people on your team, not the other way around.

Q: What do you do to unwind from work?

A: To be honest, to unwind from work, I've come to enjoy my long commute. Sports podcasts have kept me sane for the past two years of interstate fatigue, and it's a great way to separate work/home and walk in the front door with a clear mind after a long day.

Q: Describe yourself in three words.

A: I would describe myself as self-deprecating, motivated and versatile.

Q: What is something you can never over-invest in?

A: One thing you can never over-invest in is your health.
