Terry Moore is the CFO of Miller Brothers Construction, Inc. in Northwest Ohio. Miller Brothers is a large heavy highway contractor that specializes in building roads and bridges, as well as performing commercial, industrial, and environmental sitework. The company earns about $150 million a year.
Originally from Northwest Ohio, Terry attended Bowling Green University where he obtained a BS in Business Administration/ Accounting. After college, he worked in public accounting for several years and obtained his CPA. He then worked in another industry for a few more years before moving into construction. He advanced through increasingly responsible roles at two other companies before becoming the CFO of Miller Brothers in 2001.
Terry feels that his greatest contribution to Miller Brothers has been to assist in developing a strategic focus on the core business, as well as improving the communication between the office and the field. As a part of senior management, he is proud of the fact that the Toledo Blade newspaper has named Miller Brothers a “Top Work Place” for two years in a row.
Terry has been an active member of the Northwest Ohio Chapter for many years where he is the current past president, having just completed his second term. He has also been a Chairman twice before for both the Programming and the Membership committees. Terry has presented at the CFMA Annual Conference & Exhibition and has been a Conference Liaison for the past three years. He is currently preparing for the CCIFP exam and has organized a chapter study group.
Terry feels that his most memorable CFMA experiences were attending CFMA at Spring Creek and attending his first CFMA Annual Conference & Exhibition. He says that until he attended a Conference, he never realized the extent of quality education available, as well as the opportunity to network. He has attended every year since. Both CFMA at Spring Creek and the Conference have enabled Terry to establish relationships with his peers across the country. He feels as if this has been invaluable to his career.
His advice to young people is to actively engage with CFMA at the Chapter level, at Regional Conferences, and at CFMA’s Annual Conference & Exhibtion. Terry encourages young people to get on their Chapter Board and become a Chapter Officer. He strongly believes in the value of the CCIFP, which he actively promotes in his Chapter. When asked what general advice he would give young people, he states that his management philosophy through his career has been: “People don’t care about how much you know as they want to know how much you care.”
In his free time, Terry enjoys tennis, reading, and travel. His favorite activity, however, is spending time with his three children and three grandchildren.
