Ryan Amelon is an AI expert who has developed a career building and leading AI and Product teams for startups and publicly traded companies. He earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa. He then served as the Director of R&D and VP of Product for IDx which culminated in the first ever FDA clearance of an AI screening device for use without physician oversight. From there he joined SmileDirectClub, building their AI team from scratch and leading all AI Product initiatives, culminating in the successful launch of the SmileMaker app - a first of it's kind app allowing prospective customers to scan their teeth with their cellphone to automatically create high fidelity 3D models and full treatment plans specific to them. The app reduced the cost to acquire a customer by up to 50% and reached #3 on the free medical iOS charts.

Today Ryan founded and leads BrazenHead AI which helps companies develop their own AI strategy and helps get their early AI teams or initiatives off the ground. Supporting him are a strong network of colleagues that bring expertise in computer vision, large language models, generative AI, FDA regulations, and conventional software development - including a near shore software development team.
