James E. Hazel, Jr. (Jim), CPA, CCIFP,  Shareholder at Elliott Davis, James has 41 years of experience serving clients primarily in the construction, manufacturing, and closely held business specialties, including succession planning, budgeting, and business advisory consulting. Jim is a Past President of CFMA’s Charlotte Chapter and is currently the Chair of CFMA’s PPP Loan Task Force and a member of CFMA’s Emerging Issues Task Force.

Tim Varner, Senior Underwriter and Assistant Branch Manager of the Carolinas for Intact Surety. Tim has been a surety underwriter for over 5 years, working at two top-10 SFAA ranked surety companies by written premium. Prior to his time as a surety underwriter, Tim worked for an international financial consulting firm for over 10 years, focusing on forensic accounting and financial analysis for clients of multiple industries, including construction. Tim is the VP of Golf for the Charlotte CFMA Board, and holds an Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) certification and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.

Scott Pelin, Founding Partner of Catalyst Surety Partners, an Independent Insurance Agency located in Charlotte that exclusively focuses on providing surety bonds.  Prior to launching Catalyst Surety Partners, Scott was a bond underwriter for Liberty Mutual and was responsible for assessing the surety’s risk for contractors with revenues ranging from $15 Million to $12 Billion.  Scott holds a BS Degree in Finance from the University of South Carolina.

Daniel Fulcher, AFSB, AE Director, Travelers Bond, and Specialty Insurance has 16 years of Surety experience working with businesses ranging from emerging contractors to ENR top 25 clients. As a member of the Construction Services team in RTP he primarily works with companies domiciled in the Carolinas. Daniel has been involved in many Travelers Construction Services strategic initiatives.
