Topic: Year-end planning and recent tax updates for contractors, and an outlook based upon the midterm election.
We will cover year-end tax planning, structure and entity choice opportunities, accounting method opportunities & State pass through entity taxes. Our speakers will review planning for upcoming legislative changes including, bonus depreciation, interest expense deductibility, research and development, energy deductions and credits. Finally we will cover crystal ball forecast including legislative outlook based on federal elections & potential for extenders package.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will have an understanding of tax planning opportunities, including optimizing tax depreciation and evaluating accounting methods.
- Attendees will gain an awareness of potential opportunities related to structure and entity choice.
- Attendees will acquire an understanding of state pass through entity taxes including potential benefits.
- Attendees will have an understanding for upcoming legislative changes, including necessary planning for:
- Asset acquisitions to maximize bonus depreciation;
- Interest expense deductibility;
- Research and development optimization; and
- Energy deduction and credit opportunities.

Tax Partner, Construction & Real Estate Specialist Team
Mary Jo Pitzen is a partner in the Gilmore Jasion Mahler tax department with over 15 years of public accounting experience. A member of the firm’s Construction & Real Estate Specialist Team, she specializes in tax planning, consulting, and transaction advisory with a concentration in the construction industry. A board member for the Toledo chapter of The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), she is also a member of the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA).
Kim Rodriguez, CPA
Tax Manager
Kim Rodriguez is a tax manager with Gilmore Jasion Mahler. She has nearly five years of history with the firm, but also brings several years of work in private industry to her role, much of that time spent with a large cement and aggregate manufacturer. Kim works with clients across many industries, including those in the construction industry.
