Suicide is a focused topic of conversation from CFMA National.  Steve Wilfong from Owen Ames Kimball with begin our discussion of suicide by sharing resources available through CFMA National.

Heather Ward from Pine Rest will be speaking about statistics, risk factors, protective factors, warning signs, and how to cope with the loss of someone by suicide.

Speaker Bio:

• Heather Ward is a Licensed Master Level Social worker (LMSW) who obtained her Bachelor’s of Science from Central Michigan University and Master’s of Social Work from Western Michigan University. Heather’s background includes working with adults and adolescents in a variety of settings including residential, crisis residential, inpatient hospital, and outpatient. Her clinical areas of interest include depression, anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, divorce adjustment/blended families, and parenting.
• Heather practices with an eclectic approach, utilizing strategies from different therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Supportive Psychotherapy. Heather believes in working with and treating the whole person. In looking at different components, beliefs, and values and the impact they have in how the individual interacts with the world around them. She believes that a good therapeutic environment is one that is open, free of judgement, and collaborative. It is important to always keep moving forward and to strive for progress, not perfection.
